Wet Cleaning

What is Wet Cleaning?

Wet cleaning Is The Non-Toxic Alternative To Traditional Dry Cleaning

Wet cleaning replaces traditional dry cleaning. It uses highly sophisticated washers to clean your clothes with water and dedicated biodegradable detergents.

Wet cleaning is a type of garment cleaning service that is environmentally responsible, and safe for most dry clean only garments. In our opinion, wet cleaning is the greenest of all professional garment cleaning processes available today.

The wet cleaning process uses computer-controlled highly sophisticated washers to safely clean most garments marked as "dry clean only" including leather and suede.

Traditional Dry Cleaning With Petrochemical Is Toxic

Most dry cleaners in the UK use Perc (Perchloroethylene) machines to dry clean garments.

Perc chemical is a proven toxin and known carcinogen; banned in France from January 2022. There are strict UK guidelines and legislation on how to handle, use and dispose Perc. We believe dry cleaning with Perc will and should be banned in the near future. At dhobees we are glad we and our customers have no connections to Perc!

Not All "Dry Clean Only" Garments Can Be Wet Cleaned

Unfortunately not all garments marked as "dry clean only" can be wet cleaned but manufacturers are slowly changing this situation.

Fortunately, at dhobees, we have 30 years of experience and the know how to tell if a dry cleaning item can be wet cleaned.

For items not suitable for wet cleaning and therfore must be Dry Cleaned; we can do that too. We have the latest dry clean machine from Ranzacci which uses a detergent called HiGlo for dry cleaning. HiGlo is odourless, 100% biodegradable and an environmentally-friendly alternative to Perc.

Using water and biodegradable detergents, the wet cleaning process allows dhobees to professionally clean a wide variety of garments and textile marked as "dry clean only". And unlike traditional dry cleaning, the whole process is entirely solvent-free; using only water and biodegradable detergents.

Wet cleaning uses water and detergents but it is not the same as Laundry!

You might think wet cleaning is similar to laundry; i.e. washing clothes in water with detergents using a conventional washing machine.

Please never put your "dry clean only" garments in your washing machine, they will shrink, warp, fade, in other words, ruined.

The wet cleaning process requires very specialised computer-controlled washers, dryers, and dedicated detergents.

Not all "dry clean only" garments can be wet cleaned. having 30 years of professional garment care experience, like dhobees owners, allows us to decide if a particular garment can or should be wet cleaned.

Wet Cleaning Is Truly Green

It is earth friendly

  • Wet cleaning does not use hazardous chemicals, it does not generate hazardous waste, nor does the process create air pollution and it reduces the potential for water and soil contamination.
  • It is significantly more energy-efficient than dry cleaning, the cleaning process uses less energy resulting in a reduced carbon footprint.
  • Wet cleaning uses water, the universal solvent; but less of it, typically 40% less than conventional washers. The specialized biodegradable detergents and conditioners are milder than home laundry products and biodegradable within 6 months.

it is human friendly

  • Wet cleaning is solvent-free and soft on your skin and doesn’t leave behind that just dry cleaned smell!.
  • There is no chemical smell from off-gassing dry cleaning solvents such as Perc (Perchloroethylene) which can lead to eye irritation, skin rashes, or even hormonal disruption.
  • Wet cleaning is hypoallergenic. Those of us with sensitive skin will have experienced skin rashes and eye irritation to a higher degree from Perc dry cleaned items.
  • Wet cleaning is a revolutionary. Clean your clothes the healthier and more sustainable way with wet cleaning and leave behind those harmful dry cleaning solvents like Perc (Perchloroethylene). With wet cleaning, you can have cleaner clothes without any of the harsh chemicals, which are not only unsafe for your skin but also for the environment.

It is garment friendly

  • The wet cleaning wash process uses a much gentler wash and drying temperature which leads to less matting and creasing and avoids distortion of shape.
  • Garment embellishments such as beads, sequins, buttons, do not tarnish, crack or dissolve.
  • A much longer garment life cycle is achieved; the whole process does not use harsh chemicals leading to less deterioration of fibres.
